My TBR List :: June :: Queer YA

June 06, 2017

A few weeks ago I came across a fun monthly meme Called My To-Be Read List, hosted by Michelle from Because Reading is Better than Real Life
It goes like this: each month you post three books from your TBR List and add a link on a linky on Michelle's blog. Your followers and the people on the linky help you choose which book you will read next by voting on your blog post. The following Saturday you announce the winning book, then read the book and on the last Saturday of the month post a review. Cool, right?

This month I'm asking for your help to choose a book to read for one of the Book Riot Read Harder Challenge Tasks: #15 Read a YA or middle grade book by and author who identifies as LGBTQ+.

See below for a bit of info about the three options I have and vote in the comments to let me know which book you think I should read in June =)

The Sidekicks - Will Kostakis

All Ryan, Harley and Miles had in common was Isaac. They lived different lives, had different interests and kept different secrets. But they shared the same best friend. They were sidekicks. And now that Isaac's gone, what does that make them?

The Flywheel - Erin Gough
(Published as Get it Together Delilah in the US)

Seventeen-year-old Delilah’s crazy life is about to get crazier. Ever since her father took off overseas, she’s been struggling to run the family’s cafe without him and survive high school.

But after a misjudged crush on one of the cool girls, she’s become the school punchline as well. With all that’s on her plate she barely has time for her favourite distraction – spying on the beautiful Rosa, who dances flamenco at the tapas bar across the road.

All this leaves Del grappling with some seriously curly questions. Is it okay to break the law to help a friend? How can a girl tell another girl she likes her without it ending in humiliation and heartbreak? And – the big one – is it ever truly possible to dance in public without falling over?

Aristotle is an angry teen with a brother in prison. Dante is a know-it-all who has an unusual way of looking at the world. When the two meet at the swimming pool, they seem to have nothing in common. But as the loners start spending time together, they discover that they share a special friendship—the kind that changes lives and lasts a lifetime. And it is through this friendship that Ari and Dante will learn the most important truths about themselves and the kind of people they want to be.

So, those are the choices =) please vote by letting me know in the comments which book you think I should read first! And then pop over to Michelle's June TBR post to see who else is looking for help to choose their next read!

  3. As someone who has read (and enjoyed) all three books, I recommend reading The Flywheel first (then The Sidekicks, then Ari and Dante).
I say Ari and Dante last because I've always saved the best for last with things, and to me, that book (out of these three) is by far the best.
Also, this had better work this time because it already ate my first two comments. >.>
