This week's #BookishBloggersUnite is being hosted by Tina from TBR, etc, and the theme is 'Best Literary Opening Lines.

This was a tricky one for me! I love beautiful language and clever passages in books, but have absolutely zero memory for literary quotes - most of the ones that came to mind were because they are well known as quotes, rather than from my own reading of the books. After a bit of thinking (and maybe a quick flick through some of the books on my shelves) I did come up with one...

The Raven Boys - Maggie Stiefvater

I adore this entire series, and it had me intrigued from the very first line...

"Blue Sargent had forgotten how many times she'd been told that she would kill her true love"

Aaaah it makes me want to read this one over right now!

During my thinking time for this prompt I did come across one other first line that I think should get a mention, for a book that is on my TBR (I'm hoping to read it in May). The Lost Flowers of Alice Hart is a new release by aussie author Holly Ringland, and opens with

"In the weatherboard house at the end of the lane, nine-year-old Alice Hart sat at her desk and dreamed of ways to set her father on fire."

That one sentence feels so powerful, and has me ready to have my heart destroyed by this book!
