One of the things we look forward to every month is the arrival of our Inspire Book Box
Each box is packed with books, activities, and ideas around a particular theme. There have been a few months where the theme has been absolutely perfectly timed for us - August was one of these. We had just decided to go on a holiday to North America over Christmas when it was announced that the month's theme would be travel and adventure!

With planning now well underway (we even have all our flights and most of our accommodation booked!) we've been collecting books about travel to read and discuss with Amelia (who will turn 5 while we are away) - the books from our Inspire Book Box gave us a great starting point, and we've added a couple from the library too. I thought I'd share some of my faves =)

I am an absolute sucker for a kids' atlas, and this one that came in our Inspire Book Box - First Atlas - is gorgeous AND I love that it comes with a fold out map! We've had a lot of fun looking at the different continents, and matching what we can see in the book with the map and also the globe.

Lonely Planet is always my first thought when it comes to travel books, and this New York City Trails book is really fun! It is full of interesting facts about places and things to discover in NYC. To be honest it is probably better suited for kids aged 8-12, but Amelia still enjoyed looking through and hearing some of the stories about places we will visit. Also, this one got extra points for having a character called Amelia in it!

We adore 'lift-the-flap' books, and Usborne's See Inside New York City is probably our favourite of the travel books we've checked out so far. There are so many interesting bits and pieces of info in here about places we'll see in NYC, and the flaps really make it so much fun to explore!

Do you have favourite travel books for kids? I'd love any recommendations of picture books set in the eastern states, or travel books like these for kids about cities other than New York!
